DB Schenker – we're sailing ahead!

Speed and precision are the main characteristics of a successful competitive sailor and have the same importance for the logistics of sailing sports events.

Tight schedules, long transport routes and bulky transport goods are all part of the logistics for this. As the official service provider for shipping and customs clearance at the Olympic Summer Games Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, DB Schenker used their years of experience in planning and carrying out international transports for sailing.

But DB SCHENKERsportsevents had also already played a part in many top-class sailing competitions, among others:

  • Q ingdao International Regatta 2007 (China)
  • Sailing World Championships in Cascais 2007 (Portugal)
  • 49th World Championships 2005 in Moscow (Russia)
  • Miami OCR Sailing World Championships (USA) since 2004
  • Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006

Logistics for the Perth International Regatta 2010 (Australia)

In November 2010, the team from Schenker Australia Pty. Ltd imported approximately 350 boats and other sailing equipment as part of the "Perth International Regatta". Competitors from across the world took part in this sailing event, which was also the test event for the "ISAF Sailing World Championships 2011" in Perth. Already in the run-up to the event, the global network from DB SCHENKERsportsevents was available to the sailing team to transport their boats and extensive range of accessories. The German team from DB SCHENKERsportsevents also shipped a 40' high cube container for the team from the Deutscher Segler-Verband (German Sailing Association) from Hamburg to Perth, Australia.

For several years, our national subsidiaries, Schenker Australia Pty. Ltd. and Schenker Inc. USA, have already been working as a logistics partner for sailing events. Thanks to this long-term commitment and the extensive experience of the global DB SCHENKERsportsevents team in the world of sailing, Schenker Australia Pty. Ltd. was announced as the official logistics service provider of the "ISAF Sailing World Championships 2011". From 3rd until 18th December 2011, more than 1,400 athletes in the Olympic classes will compete in the sailing areas in Perth in order to clear another hurdle on the road to qualifying for the Olympic Games London 2012.
